Online games can be incredibly fun. There's something about playing against other human opponents that a computer just can't simulate. Perhaps it's just that A.I. isn't advanced enough yet, or it could be that we love to measure our abilities against other human beings to find out what we're made of. Whatever it is that makes it so exciting, online gaming is the big thing right now and it's here to stay.
The majority of online game players are normal, but every once in a while you'll run into some psycho who does everything he can to ruin the game for everyone else. Over the course of my research, I've run into the following types of lame players:
Annoying or Offensive Players
These are players that spam messages or players that have offensive names. The types of messages they spam include mindless garbage, yelling at other players, vulgar comments, and taunts. |
Cheaters
Players that circumvent the rules of the game through programs or special drivers. This includes invincibility hacks, invisibility hacks, speed hacks, stat boost hacks, radars, aimbots, see-through wall hacks and video card drivers that allow them to see through walls. Aimbots are the most common cheat in First-Person Shooter online games. They allow a cheater to lock their crosshair onto another player without moving their mouse, so they only have to press the fire button to shoot other players. |

Team Killers
Found only in team games where friendly fire is enabled. Friendly fire means that when you shoot a teammate, they take damage. It makes the game more realistic and causes the player to be more careful where he shoots. The server admin can usually turn friendly fire on or off. The problem comes when you meet someone that WANTS to shoot his teammates and he does so over and over again. This is a Team Killer. |
